These boots are designed to shield the spark plug wire and boot from damage due to the extreme heat radiating from the exhaust.  They will also protect the wires (for a short period of time) if they come loose from the harness and lay onto the exhaust components.  These two layers of fiberglass will insulate the protected wires from heat up to 1200º F .
